The '80s were great because you could make a movie where a 30 year-old Arliss Howard plays a cop who goes undercover as a high school student, and they play it completely straight. None of those 21 Jump Street “You look old as shit!” jokes here. Everyone just accepts it. It was a more innocent time.

Spoiler alert for Plain Clothes, a nearly 40 year-old movie that no one on Earth loves as much as I do: Throughout the film, Howard’s character flirts with his teacher. And near the end, his charms have completely worn her down. She is ABSOLUTELY about to molest who she thinks is a teenage student.

Then they get interrupted, foiling her child molesting plot. Later, she finds out he’s a cop. They have a cute romantic scene. But he never says, “Hey, you were going to BANG me when you thought I was a kid. Guess what? You’re under arrest, too.” That’s always bugged me. Otherwise, great film.
