I've been practicing law for 43 years and I'm here to tell you that putting something in italics does not make it more proper. It's a weasel move by somebody that doesn't have a good argument.

I have known some judges who, in similar circumstances, would be very curious about the possibility that the U.S. attorneys might have repeatedly lied to the court and the grand jury.

What we already know is that they were lying blithering idiots scamming their way through a Grand Jury. I can't actually imagine what they could have done that would be worse. But when DOJ reaches unimaginable depths that's when we need to know the most. I hope there's a way the judge can do that.

Besides uncovering the horror of what these ghouls do and bringing into question a whole lot of work done by them on other cases, what do the plaintiffs get from this besides the fees? Are there additional penalties against the gov't? Can there be sanctions and bar referrals? What else?

Considering what we know already is pretty awful I can only imagine what they’re hiding.

It would be hilarious if a judge signed off on this relief, and then ordered an inquiry into the office anyway to find out what the fuck else has been going on in there. (But also the relief to their victims should not come from taxpayers. It should come from the bank accounts of the perps.)

I can't wait to have a functioning country again where we can prosecute and jail such vile people for their crimes.

My rule of thumb is that whether the govt fights you on attorneys' fees boils down to 4 factors: 1) the amount of the fees; 2) how awful the DOJ's case was; 3) the last time the DOJ lawyer got laid; 4) the last time the agency counsel got laid. Each factor's weight changes multiple times a day.

The lesson being that under the circumstances they should have sought 10-100x more.

The fees should be paid by the lawyers and people who brought the case. Taxpayers should NOT have to pay for the incompetence.

Here's hoping it's impeachment material. Maybe some high figures in the DOJ if we're really lucky in the White House. Hoping....

If they were a bit smarter wouldn’t they put up the minimal plausible opposition? This screams that any judge who cares about fraud on the court needs to set up shop in that office and not leave until they’re satisfied
