I am a socialist, but my ideal democratic presidential candidate isn't even necessarily a socialist, it's just someone who gives a shit and acts like it. Vote, campaign, and behave as though you care what happens to this country and the people in it. That's genuinely about all I'm looking for.

the lesson the center is going to have to learn here is that "this person is too ideologically extreme" simply no longer works as a "get out of competitive primary free" card, you need to convince the voters you're going to fight harder than your opponent or they'll be happy to give socialism a try

It’s absolutely true. The first, second, and third thing I’m looking for in the candidates I’m voting for in next week’s MI primary is how they speak to fighting this administration’s authoritarianism. I would vote for a fighting never-Trump like Kristol over a feckless pro-MFA lefty Dem.

I dunno about this. Yes, there is a "fight vs deliberate" axis, but there's a neglected layer of, who are you fighting? Much of the country wants to fight Trump and Republicans. The DSA is feebly rolling that into their nebulous opposition to "the system" To fight everything is to fight nothing.
