I know they're just trying to be friendly, so I don't necessarily mind, but it makes me wonder if I give off a vibe like I feel guilty for doing something slightly unusual in public? Or if the baseline assumption is that someone doing anything slightly unusual must want reassurance about it

Maybe I should just be saying, "Hi, this is Brooks!" The fact that I explain it probably makes people assume I'm uncomfortable about it, when what I'm trying to do is assure people that it's okay to ask questions

Maybe like "This is Brooks, he loves walks!" rather than "I have to walk him regularly"?

Yeah, good point. I say it that way because I think it sounds funny, like, hi, this eight-pound animal will rip through my house like the Tasmanian Devil if I don't appease him. I feel like it's obvious that I enjoy walking him or I wouldn't do it, but of course a stranger wouldn't just know that
