This isn't that uncommon in geologic history. Mosasaurs breathed air, and were the top marine predators in the late Cretaceous. Pliosaurs were the top marine predator in the Jurassic and early Cretaceous. There seems to be a common pattern of land animals overtaking cold-blooded, dim, dead-end fish.

I'm going to be, like 10% contrarian here and say that it's REALLY BAD, that both the AMA, and AAP uniformly recommend constant sunscreen use for everyone, even if you're a dark skinned vegetarian (and consequently skin cancer is a tiny risk to your QoL relative to vitamin D deficiency.)
