My hot take is grunge isnt a genre. Nirvana was a punk/post-punk band, AIC Id just call hard rock or maybe even metal, same for STPs first album, with STP later transitioning into a mix of art and glam rock. Soundgarden Id say art or avant garde rock, Pearl Jam is arena rock.

oooohhhhh the noise i just made. i was with you except for Soundgarden, but I might have to agree. Chris Cornell was the best grunge vocalist, imo, though only because Staley and Cantrell dueted to fight their stage fright.

AIC are the only ones i ever feel like listening to out of that group. That has to mean something.

In terms of peak grunge-era output, I'd only disagree in that Soundgarden is tied. Pearl Jam has had the long career, though, and I haven't kept up with it, but I have heard they've put out some really good records, so.
